Chocolate Syrup UK Recipe – UK Hershey’s Clone – Chocolate Milk (Milkshake)

My eldest daughter is obsessed by chocolate milkshakes, however, have you ever read the ingredients of some of the commercial milkshake syrups and powders you can buy? It’s scary! She particularly likes a well known US brand of chocolate syrup for making chocolate milk, called Hershey’s. Yup we have all heard of it! But here in the UK it is hard to find. So after a bit of trial and error, we made our own ‘clone’ recipe, it is very similar to the original Hershey’s taste and what is even better, it doesn’t just mean we can make it ourselves…

Crispy Chinese Hoi Sin Chicken With Cashew Nuts Recipe

I adore Chinese food, adore maybe too milder word. If I could only ever eat one type of food ever again, it would be Chinese food. I love cooking it almost as much as I love eating it, the way you can change the beautiful flavours by adjusting the spices and sauces, even the way the food is cooked. The favourite Chinese dish that I cook is my crispy hoi sin chicken with cashew nuts. It has all the warming spice taste along side the aromatic flavours. Serves 4 Ingredients For the crispy chicken 600g chicken breast (cut into medium to…

Quick Easy Jam Recipe – Jam Making – Foolproof Jam You Can Freeze!

I remember when I first started to make jam, many moons ago, I bought a book which told me I had to have so many technical instruments and ingredients, copper bowls, this, that and the whatever and as I grew older I just thought, ah….life’s too short!  Now I make good honest thick, tasty, fruity jam with just 2 ingredients, it takes about 15 minutes to cook and it is fool proof. This way of making jam has never failed me once! The jam is not super sweet and sickly like some commercial jams, you can actually taste the fruit *gasp*….

Scones – Easy and quick scone recipe!

I love scones, especially with vast quantities of clotted cream and home made jam, but some recipes are so long winded for scones that I decided to share with you my fool proof easy scone recipe. These scones can also be frozen for up to a year in the freezer so why not make a double batch and keep them for the coming months. Enjoy! Makes 20(ish) scones Ingredients 750g self raising flour (with a little extra for dusting) 1.5 teaspoons salt 4 teaspoons baking powder 4 tablespoons of caster sugar 160g unsalted butter 350ml milk (whole, semi-skimmed or skimmed…

Festive Yuletide Orange And Cranberry Spiced Muffins

These festive muffins are great for Yule afternoon as you cozy up in front of the fire.  They are sweet, aromatic, soft and fluffy.  Even better, they are easy to make!  If you don’t like cranberries, you can replace these with blueberries or cherries, which ever you prefer.   They taste lovely with a glass of mulled wine or a mixed berry fruit punch.  They also freeze very well, so make a larger batch and freeze some in case you have unexpected guests arrive (or in case you want more yourself ).  I do love a bit of cakey goodness…

Natural Cold Flu & Sore Throat Winter Remedy & Tonic

Before I start this recipe and before you glance down and think you are about to have a meltdown with all the weird sounding ingredients and all the faffing about…stop.  This remedy is excellent. Yes, it requires a lot of unusual stuff and yes, it is a faff to make but it is better than a lot of over the counter ‘tonics’ you’ll get and it’s natural! Ingredients 370g fresh rosehips 8g dried echinacea leaf 10g dried calendula petals 10g dried comfrey 20g dried coltsfoot 20 whole cloves 3 teaspoons of ground cinnamon 400g granulated sugar 5 teaspoons of freshly chopped ginger…

Slow Cooker Honey & Soy Chicken

I love my slow cooker and when I say ‘love’ I mean, LOVE.  In fact, I have two that sit side by side on my kitchen counter. One is a large 6.5L and the other a 3L.  The beauty is, I can add everything I need in first thing in the morning and whilst I am out at work dinner is cooking.  Plus when you walk through your front door the smell is amazing!  This dish went down very well last night and this is the slow cooker version of a sweet BBQ sauce I used to make so I…

Tomato, Aubergine and Chilli Chutney Recipe

I am a bit of a sucker for chutneys. The idea of a white crusty roll filled with chedder cheese and home made chutney fills me with deep joy. But chutneys, good chutneys, can be very expensive to buy, however, they are actually incredibly cheap to make, they just take time. Below is my recipe for tomato, aubergine and chilli chutney, all three of which we have grown in our garden this year. These are the last of our crop so I wanted to put them to good use, our neighbour donated some extra tomatoes too! (Thank you!) Ingredients 900g…

Cottage Cheese / Curd Cheese UK Recipe

My youngest daughter is lactose intolerant which is a bit of a bummer as she adores milk, cheese and yoghurt.  We tried various soya, rice and coconut milks and she just couldn’t drink them but then luckily in the UK a new lactose free milk came on to our shop shelves and she loves it, so with this milk we now make our own cottage cheese. It is incredibly easy to make, tastes really good and you can add all your extra flavours to it too.  It is softer than shop bought cottage cheese but much tastier. Ingredients 4 pints…

Dry Shampoo Recipe – Natural, Easy & Cheap! UK Recipe

My kids are obsessed with dry shampoo and it is very handy stuff.  Normal shop bought shampoo is full of nasties. They are overloaded with chemicals and really do no good to your hair and if used too often can strip out all the natural goodness and leave your hair dull and not to mention, very tangled. And what if you are out and about and need your hair to look good but can’t get to a shower? Then dry shampoo is the answer and our recipe is not only super easy to make, it is also cheap and natural….
