National Vegetarian Week 2019 – Veggie Foodie Treats for the Non-Veggie!

This week has been a wondrous taste sensation through the world of vegetarian food thanks to #NationalVegetarianWeek hosted by The Vegetarian Society UK. As a non-veggie and humble meat eater, I adore trying new ways to increase my veggie food intake and weeks like this make it easier to try new products and get involved with both new and established vegetarian food brands. I have tried and tested many products this week, those featured here are the ones that will be staying in my beloved kitchen as ‘regulars’. I don’t see them as ‘vegetarian alternatives’ I just see them now…

Top 10 Crisp & Chip Snack Alternatives

I’m not going to lie. Nope. Not me. So I need to confess something to you all my lovely dear readers: I love crisps. Those crispy fried (or even oven baked) thin slices of golden potato covered in manufactured fake tasting flavourings. Yes, there you go, I said it. I love crisps. And whether you call them crisps or chips (as my American pals do), those morsels of calories, carbs and fat are, to me, joyous. But what if you want something a little different? A little healthier? Or maybe just a new taste sensation? Then read on my lovelies……

Natural & Organic Products Europe (London) 2019 – A Quick Tour!

For me, every year of food shows starts with the Natural & Organic Products Europe Expo (also known as NOPE) at London Excel. Natural & Organic Products Europe is Europe’s biggest trade show for natural & organic products making it the ‘must attend’ event for buyers of natural health and living products, natural and organic food & drink as well as natural beauty & personal care products. I have attended every year since it began with a press pass in hand and for me, it is the highlight of my trade show year. Organised by Diversified Communications UK, the show…

Low Carb Keto BBQ Spice Rub Mix Recipe

We adore BBQ's in this house, but if you pick up any pre-made BBQ spice mix or sauce in your local supermarket you will see one of the largest ingredients in all of them is sugar. Not great if you are diabetic or following a low carb keto diet. So why not try my version! It tastes just as good and even gives the same charred effect that sugar does when it caramelises on heat. Ingredients 4 tablespoons brown erythritol(Worried about the carbs in eyrthritol? Then don't - the carbs in erythritol aren't absorbed in the same way as standard...Continue reading

Easy & Quick Pickled Cucumber Recipe – UK recipe for delicious pickled cucumbers!

We eat a LOT of pickled cucumbers in our house. Whether they are on homemade burgers, on top of blue cheese in a baguette, in salads or used in our homemade tartare sauce. I have also caught people just popping into the fridge and snacking on them too - naughty but delicious ;) We probably go through 2 jars a week so this could get expensive if we didn't make our own, but we do and I have to say I think they are more tasty than the shop bought ones anyway! My eldest daughter and I make these together...Continue reading

Bombay Potatoes Recipe UK – Tastes Like Indian Restaurant

Tonight, I made my tandoori chicken recipe for dinner, my family always love it especially when I serve it with Bombay potatoes. These soft, buttery, aromatic morsels of potato just make me smile when I eat them and they make your kitchen smell delicious when you cook them! This recipe is easy and quick to make and will save you a lot of money! Ingredients 1kg white potatoes 2 teaspoons chopped or minced ginger 1 teaspoon chopped or minced garlic 2 large tomatoes, roughly chopped. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 35g unsalted butter 1 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 teaspoon coriander…

Sweet and Spicy Smoked BBQ Sauce Recipe UK Barbecue Dip

Last week I shared my easy foolproof mayonnaise recipe and said how it was my youngest daughters favourite sauce. My eldest daughter however, loves BBQ sauce. Not just any BBQ sauce but rich, sweet BBQ sauce that has a spiciness and a smokiness to it.  She slathers it on everything and when I make my homemade barbecue sauce using my recipe below, she will literally find stuff to dip in to it as it is cooling down!  If you want a BBQ sauce that you can use as a condiment, as a sauce, as a dip or even as a marinade…

Tandoori Chicken Recipe UK – Just Like An Indian Restaurant!

My whole family adores Indian food. Some like the subtle aromatic spiced dishes such as korma and passanda, others (like myself) like fiery hot spiced dishes such as ceylon, madras, vindaloo and phaal. But we all agree on one thing. Tandoori chicken. The orangey red meat that is charred and tastes so full of flavour. However, our local Indian restaurant charges £7.50 for just one, yes JUST ONE, tandoori chicken leg. But you know me, I love to cook and I love to save money, so here is my recipe for tandoori chicken that is mouth wateringly good and costs…

Easy Foolproof Mayonnaise Recipe – Quick Mayo Recipe UK

My youngest daughter absolutely loves mayo.  If left to here own devices she would eat it on everything! The ingredients listed however on shop bought mayonnaise shows they are full of chemical nasties and substitutes for natural ingredients. So now I make my own. I know exactly what goes in it and although it doesn’t last as long in the fridge, it isn’t full of a load of chemical nonsense either! This recipe makes a lot of mayo, enough to fill 2 jam jars so it will keep you going for a while. But because this recipe uses raw eggs,…

Chinese Style Honey, Orange and Ginger Crispy Chicken Recipe

My favourite dish at any Chinese restaurant is almost always the sweet and sour… well sweet and sour anything! Vegetables, chicken, pork, prawns… if it is covered in that sweet yet tangy sauce then I am all over it. But I am unable to cook it at home for a family meal as only I like it…. bummer, right? So I devised this recipe to give me some of the flavours (and the all important orangey coloured sauce) of sweet and sour but also flavours that my family would like to eat. Every time I make this dish, it goes down…
